August 2024

On 17 July 2024, the Federal Court of Australia consolidated two separate class actions against Jaguar Land Rover, one previously conducted by Maurice Blackburn, called the “Jennings” class action, and another previously conducted by Gilbert + Tobin, called the “Greentree” class action, to form the consolidated Jaguar Land Rover class action.

Pleadings have recently been filed by the applicants in the consolidated Jaguar Land Rover class action. Pleadings are the documents in which the parties set out the facts on which they rely to make out their claims.

The applicants filed their Consolidated Originating Application and Consolidated Statement of Claim on 8 August 2024. Jaguar Land Rover Australia has filed a Defence to the Consolidated Statement of Claim on 4 October 2024 and a Reply was filed on 18 October 2024.

On 26 August 2024, Quinn Emanuel replaced Gilbert + Tobin in conducting the consolidated Jaguar Land Rover class action. Maurice Blackburn and Quinn Emanuel are now jointly conducting the consolidated Jaguar Land Rover class action on behalf of the lead applicants and group members.

In parallel with preparing the consolidated pleadings, the applicants have continued to analyse an initial set of data, information and documents produced by Jaguar Land Rover Australia pursuant to orders previously made in the Greentree class action.

Further updates will be provided following the next case management hearing which is likely to be set down in early 2025.
